InMotion Review for WordPress: A Dark Horse Among the Pack?

Finding a web host is the first step (and perhaps the most complicated) to take when you get started with WordPress. However, it’s not a lack of options, but how they’re sorted – especially if you don’t know what to look for. With that in mind, let’s take a closer look at our in-depth InMotion review for WordPress.

When it comes to WordPress-specific hosting, InMotion is one of the mainstays. However, they are not usually a name that rolls off the tongue when discussing suitable hosts.

Let’s get this right! In this InMotion WordPress review, we’ll start by covering its platform-specific features. We’ll then examine support, performance, and pricing before weighing InMotion’s pros and cons. When you’re done reading, you’ll see for yourself that InMotion definitely deserves a spot at the big boy hosting table.

InMotion Review for WordPress: Features

As a WordPress user, one of the main things you should look out for in your host is whether it offers options tailored to the platform. In the case of InMotion, it does! Let’s see what they are:

  • Preinstalled WordPress : This is a handy feature that will help you get up and running quickly.
  • BoldGrid Builder: Every WordPress plan includes a premium BoldGrid builder. This drag-and-drop builder is compatible with most WordPress themes.
  • Free Themes Included : InMotion includes several free themes with your subscription, including niches like restaurants and lifestyles.
  • WordPress Command Line Interface (WP-CLI) Support: Every installation of InMotion supports WP-CLI. This enables you to manage your WordPress site using the command line, ideal for advanced users.

As you can see, InMotion offers a decent set of WordPress-specific features for beginner users; however, advanced users may find this feature set lacking, aside from WP-CLI support.

support

Our experience with the InMotion support team has been very positive. Every time we contact them, they get back to us quickly – sometimes in less than a minute. This is a spectacular time for a popular web host that may receive hundreds of queries per day.

Plus, their support team is relatively proficient in WordPress. While they’re not the most knowledgeable we’ve seen so far, they should be helpful enough for new users with simple queries.

performance

In terms of performance, we need to consider two criteria – performance-specific features and loading speed. Let’s see how InMotion fares with the former:

  • Solid State Drive (SSD) Hosting : InMotion provides SSD storage to all of its customers, reducing load times.
  • Choice of two data centers : You can choose between East Coast and West Coast data centers, which gives you more control over loading speeds.

While InMotion offers unlimited bandwidth and storage, the rest of their performance features are pretty barren. Also, since their data centers are entirely located in the US, your international load times may suffer. Let’s check that this logic works for a few performance tests.

Page Speed Test Using Pingdom

Pingdom is a relatively simple tool. It enables you to measure how quickly a website loads by testing it from a specific location, and then assigns it a grade based on that speed. To do this, we tested our InMotion website using three different servers. Let’s see the result:

InMotion did a good job on the New York server (unsurprisingly), but eventually it fell apart the further we got from the US. Let’s see if these results stand up to the pressure.

Basic load testing with load effects

Unlike Pingdom, Load Shock doesn’t offer a simple speed test. Instead, it attempts to highlight how a website performs under stress by simulating up to 25 simultaneous users visiting the site. Here’s how InMotion does it:

  • Load Generator : Ashburn, USA.
  • Test server : Ashburn, USA.
  • Minimum response time : 0.27 seconds.
  • Maximum response time : 0.84 seconds.

As we’ve seen before, InMotion does well with US servers due to the location of its data centers. There are a few more spikes than we’d like to see, but overall, it’s a good show. Having said that, we recommend that you consider a good content delivery network (CDN) to reduce loading speeds for users outside the US.

pricing

Price is an important factor when choosing the right WordPress hosting. InMotion offers a few different plans for WordPress users  – here’s what you need to know:

  • WP Core ($3.49 per month): A modest plan that supports one WordPress site. Great for personal websites. Plus, you get a free domain name.
  • WP Startup ($6.99 per month): This plan supports up to two sites. This is a good option for small businesses. You can get more SSD storage (100GB).
  • WP Power ($6.99 per month): The next tier supports up to three sites and provides enough power for a medium-sized business. You can get even more SSD storage (150GB).
  • WP Pro ($14.99 per month): This top tier supports up to six sites. You also get 200GB of SSD storage.

InMotion currently offers some of the most competitive prices in the WordPress hosting space. Their deals are hard to beat, but as you can gather from the rest of the section, overall the console lacks a bit of polish. First off, all of their plans are supposed to include unlimited space and bandwidth, but they perform poorly when accessed from outside the US. Second, you lose access to many advanced WordPress features.

For these reasons, we only recommend InMotion for small websites and modest commercial enterprises.

Overall Pros and Cons

We’ve hit all the points you need to know, so before wrapping up our InMotion WordPress review, let’s quickly list the pros and cons:

advantage

A nice set of WordPress-specific features are provided for beginners.

shortcoming

in conclusion
